Domestic Violence

Help those who cannot help themselves and never allow unacceptable behaviour!

Perpetrators of domestic violence are NOT mythical monsters that crawl out from the dark to do their evil deeds, they are the people that physically, emotionally or verbally abuse their friends, partners or family they claim to love?

For most victims, abuse starts with careless actions from rough sport or play through to insults with banter or talk that is demeaning, disrespectful, immoral or racial.

Arguments may escalate to a point whereby intervention by Police or trained professionals are the only options available to them to resolve their conflicts.

Those of us who are the bystanders and not directly involved in the abuse, have a responsibility to “speak up” and “help those who are unable to help themselves”. We also have a duty of care to take full responsibility for our actions and words.

“Blaming a victim” to whom something was done to, rather than the person who did it is like saying: “She asked for it by what she was wearing” “He deserves her” “She must like violent men” and “Why can’t he stand up to his woman”.

The power for change is in the hands of the bystander as he or she is not the focus of the abuse and CAN stop the festering behaviour and deem it unacceptable, not just because it is illegal, but because it is wrong, unacceptable and should NEVER be tolerated.

Ultimately, education is the key to change and with this, we urge all to take heed and provide early training for bystanders of domestic violence …
